Did you try reducing resolution down to 360 from 720 (HD) or have you set a an agressive bandwidth limit?

No, i haven't. Btw, mesaage carbons XEP only covers sent messages. You would still be missing outgoing messages. The only client i have tried which supports message carbons was Yaxim for android.
